As writers we will be writing exciting stories about adventures in the United Kingdom. We will be writing reports, information texts and descriptive poems. We will continue doing lots of work on using interesting vocabulary (adjectives) and also adding conjunctions (e.g. and, so, because) in out work to extend our sentences. We will also be looking at using some different openers in our writing to add effect and sequence out ideas.
We will continue practicing using full stops and begin looking at different punctuation such as explanations marks (!) and question marks (?).
Spellings are put in books every Friday for a spelling quiz the following Friday. Ash class have been doing amazingly well in their spelling quiz! Well done Ash class.
In phonics, we will be continuing with Phase 5 in class. Please do practise the sounds/words that come home on a Monday as this will really help the children with their spelling in their day to day work. ( I understand phase 5 is quite tricky so please feel free to come and see me if you have any questions).
As mathematicians we will be consolidating our knowledge of addition and subtraction, as well as place value. We will be looking at multiplication and division (2s, 5s, 10s). We will continue practising telling the time to o'clock and half past and remember the months of the year.
In RE the three topics that will be taught this term; Being Sorry, Other Faiths (Islam) and Neighbours. We will be looking at times we've been sorry and learning about scripture in the Bible that teaches us about forgiveness. It is important for the children to understand that we all make mistakes in life and saying sorry is an important aspect in all relationships. We will be looking at our immediate neighbours in our classroom and in our school and neighbours who are further away in other countries. We are neighbours as we are brothers and sisters in God's world.
As scientists we will be learning about 'Everyday materials'. We will learn the names of many materials and investigate their properties.
Look around your house... how many materials can you see. What are they being used for??
As geographers we will be learning all about the four countries in the UK and their capital cities. Do you know any of them?
As artists and designers we will be designing and making our own Barnaby Bear. we will learn how to use tools like a scissors and a bradawl...all very exciting. I can't wait.
As athletes we will be continuing our Games unit. We will be learning lots of new skills and hopefully enjoy lessons outside!
As computer experts we will begin learning about handling data. We will be producing charts and graphs using computer programmes.
As always we all look forward to another fun, learning-filled, exciting half term
It has been lovely to begin to get to know you all and I'm sure we have fantastic year ahead as team Ash.
