Please don't forget Barnaby bear's birthday party on Tuesday, bring your own bear or soft toy to enjoy some fun! AND Remember to dress up as a pirate for our pirate party on Thursday

Our topic this half term is Things that go! we will be focusing on cars trains buses boats aeroplanes, hot air balloons, space and pirate ships. We will have our interest table where children can bring things linked to the topic to show their friends from home. Towards the end of the term we will celebrate by having a pirate party so get yourself ready by choosing what clothes to wear and making up a pirate name for yourself….we will let you know the date nearer the time.
We will welcome visits from the new children who are due to start school in September and your children will be great guides showing them around!

We will be working with Beebot ( a small programmable toy ) so we may ask if the children have simple remote controlled toys that they can bring in to show their friends....nothing too complicated please !!! We promise to take good care of them and will not have them in school for long. We will let you know when they can bring them in

We will continue to do shared reading everyday as well as individual and group reading for different groups each day. . This half term we will be working on the following big books :- To town, Grandpa Grandpa, I want my Mum!, Shark in the Park and The Wicked Pirates, so look forward to hearing all about them !

Please make sure that the children bring their bookbags and word packs to school everyday, even if you have not read with them overnight. The children have all done very well learning the words on their bookmarks. Please remember that you are invited to come into class to help your child change their books in the morning.
Please continue to work on the individual targets that are in their reading record books. We focus on these in class but it is good if they are practising at home as well. Please work on these together and encourage your child to add a smiley face to the ones they have mastered.

All the children will be encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas with their classmates and be supported to speak in full sentences, using as much interesting vocabulary as they can. We continue to do fun phonics activities everyday and there is a link at the bottom of the page if you would like some ideas of what you could do at home. We are working on phase three and four activities. The children have learnt the sounds that individual letters make. They are also blending these sounds together to read basic vowel- consonant (VC) and consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC)words and now consonant-consonant-vowel consonant (CCVC )and consonant-vowel-consonant-consonant (CVCC ). New tricky words will be introduced and added to new bookmarks soon. We will be reading more complex words using a variety of reading, phonics and decoding skills

The children will be given lots of opportunities to write and draw and we will encourage them to form all the letters correctly. Just as the children are using their knowledge of letter sounds to help them in reading they are also being encouraged to segment the sounds they hear in words to help them have a go at writing VC , CVC CCVC and CVCC words, as well as some more complex words they may want to try on their own. Please give them opportunities to use these skills with you at home. We have been focusing on finger spaces, capital letters and full stops, please encourage your children to use these when they work at home.

We will be doing daily problem solving, reasoning and numeracy activities, encouraging the children to say and use numbers in the correct order. Copy and make their own repeating patterns. Making sets of different objects and discuss the methods they have used. We will begin to explore and talk about 3D shapes and their properties. We will continue to use basic addition and subtraction skills, combining groups and taking away from a given group. We will use many different ways to record this information and sometimes the children will choose how they want to record their work themselves. We will start to count in a larger variety of ways for example: in 2s, 5s and 10s. Starting from different numbers, counting forwards and backwards. We will continue to focus on the use of ordinal numbers in practical activities like races and whose turn games. Please use any opportunity to reinforce number recognition skills, counting and basic practical adding and taking away. We will also be working on sequencing events, basic weight and measuring activities. Looking at coins and money and ways to measure time.

Our Religious Education topics this half term are Friends, Neighbours and Our world. We celebrated Pentecost by going to the church together, it was lovely to see so many parents. The children have really enjoyed taking the class prayer book home and we use their own prayers regularly in the week.
As a school we will celebrate our feast day on 29th June. Our end of year Mass is on 5th July at 9.15am and you are all welcome. It is one of the few occasions we celebrate Mass together as a school so it would be lovely to see as many parents as possible.

In ICT the children have been doing lots of fun activities to support their literacy and numeracy skills as well as creative work. We will be using the programmable robot-beebot, and talking about giving, receiving and following instructions. We use a wide variety of websites in class including Busy things, phonics play, Top marks etc The children are very skilled at navigating around games using a wide variety of skills. We will continue and extend this for the rest of the term.

We are going on our class trip to Willow Farm on Monday 3rd July you will receive a letter shortly all about it please fill in the relevant details and send the money and permission slip back as soon as possible.......thank you in advance!

We try to cook once a week, mostly on Fridays and would appreciate a weekly contribution of 20p to go towards covering the cost of ingredients. This can be placed in 'the world' money box on the cupboard next to the book corner. You have been very good helping us to finance buying ingredients throughout the year. We hope you are enjoying the original recipes at the bottom of the page.

The children are provided with a piece of fresh fruit as a midmorning snack. Please help us to encourage them to eat this. Also we like children to have constant access to water. On their first day at school your child was given a water bottle to keep in class, please refill this daily and make sure they remember to bring it to school.

We love parents/friends helpers in school. All you have to do is fill in a basic police check form and receive clearance. Please see a member of staff if you are interested. If you have done this already and have a morning or afternoon please let us know so we can arrange a date.
There are also many jobs that can be done at home if you are unavailable during the school day, we always appreciate your help.

Please remember you can always talk to us after school or ring to arrange an appointment if you have any questions or issues you wish to discuss with us. Please do not worry about things at home....come in and have a chat!
